Def Leppard is a band that needs no introduction.
With over four decades of music-making under their
belts, they have cemented themselves as one of the
most iconic bands in rock history. And now, the
British rockers are taking their sound to another
level with their upcoming release ôDrastic
Symphonies,ö -a collaboration with LondonÆs
distinguished Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
Set to be released May 19th, this album is a
reimagining of some of Def LeppardÆs greatest hits
along with a few deeper cuts that diehard fans will
appreciate. The symphonic twist accentuates the
intertwined audio from their original recordings and
their recorded performance alongside the RPO at the
famous Abbey Road Studios.
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, known to have
collaborated with other rock royalty, brings a depth
and grandeur to Def LeppardÆs epic sound. New vocal
and guitar recordings along with fresh arrangements,
give the songs new life and dimension. At given
times, you can hear frontman Joe Elliott duetting
with himself! Tracks were reworked and expanded, and
there is no denying that the synergy of the
distinctive Leppard harmonies and RPO strings
elevates an emotional reaction.
The album features 15 tracks; among a few of my
favourites are ôGods Of War,ö ôBringing on the
Heartbreak,ö ôKings of the World,ö and ôSwitch 625.ö
The culmination of guitar riffs, cello, drums,
violin (and more) pushes their sound to something
special. It is a testament to their artistry and the
expert vision of collaborating producers Ronan
McHugh and Nick Patrick with beautiful arrangements
by Eric Gorfain.
